Abstract
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the reliability and validity of two-dimensional analysis of transverse tibial rotation during walking using three-dimensional movement analysis. The right lower extremities of 20 subjects (10 women and 10 men) were videotaped three times while walking over a 12 m walkway. Transverse movement of the tibia was calculated from the resulting video images using both two- and three-dimensional motion analysis techniques. A high degree of association was found between the mean pattern of two-dimensional tibial rotation in comparison to mean pattern of three dimensional tibial rotation (r =.85; r2 =.71). Based on these results, it was concluded that the analysis procedures used in this study are both reliable and valid when compared to three-dimensional analysis procedures.
