Abstract

Spectral lineshapes of benzene/cyclohexane clusters (B·CN-1, N=2-20) have been obtained by resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy in the vicinity of the benzene A1g→B2u 601 transition. An analysis of spectral shifts and multiplicities provides support for the structural shell-filling model used previously to account for (benzene)Ncluster spectra. In particular, evidence for isomeric forms of the B·C6 cluster is interpreted in terms of axial and equatorial sites in the pentagonal bipyramid structure.
