Abstract

This chapter explores the ability of Food Not Bombs, an anarchist homeless food organisation that publicly serves free vegetarian dumpstered food. Following a historical and theoretical exploration of the commodification of food, the chapter engages with the concept of the ex-commodity and discusses how Food Not Bombs, a radical network which formed out of anti-nuclear and anti-militarist movements, uses the ex-commodity as part of a broader politics of decommodifying food and undermining the capitalist food system.
