Abstract

Cleaved {100} surfaces of high purity KCl crystals were sublimated in vacuum with and without an electrostatic field being present. The field produced marked changes in the ledge structure on the sublimated surfaces. The results are interpreted in terms of the terrace-ledge-kink model for sublimation, with kink-associated surface charge.
