Abstract
Well resolved ultraviolet spectra of the smaller benzene clusters (BN, N≤20) have been obtained by resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy of a cluster beam. Under the coldest conditions, optical lineshapes show a remarkable narrowing at N = 13, and probable secondary linewidth minima at N = 7 and 19. This pattern is interpreted according to the principles of shell filling in clusters of nonpolar molecules.
