Abstract
Thin films produced from Alg6Mnl4alloy were heated in situ in the transmission electron microscope. The deposited films were amorphous and, after heating, two metastable phases are obtained. These phases are strongly related to the quasicrystalline phases and the vacancyordered superstructures. The analysis shows that these phases can be described as rational approximants of the decagonal phase. The relation between the quasicrystalline and long-period superstructures is also proposed.
