Abstract
The use of organometallic complexes for nonlinear optics was discussed. Cubic nonlinearities \γ\800 and two-photon absorption cross-sections σ2 increase on 'dimensional evolution' from linear analogues to octopolar complexes. Molecular third-order nonlinear susceptibilities χ(3) were also found to be large and scaling with the number of metal atoms.
