Abstract

Dynamical diffraction theory was used to study the contrast of small metallic particles supported on crystalline substrates. The dependence of the particle visibility on the orientation and thickness is discussed. Experimental examples of changes in particle visibility for Pt/alumina and Pt/sapphire are presented.
