Abstract

Stellated Au/Ag nanoparticles have been synthesized in ascorbic acid in the presence of CTAB using Ag nanoparticles as seeding points. The composition of the materials obtained has been characterized by EDX. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy has been employed to analyze the structure of the nanoparticles and weak-beam dark field transmission electron microscopy (WBDF) was used to acquire 3D images and elucidate the morphology of the materials and study the formation or absence of defects in the crystals. Stellated Au/Ag has been found to grow free of defects presenting a single crystal structure; meanwhile twin planes are present in all elongated nanoparticles.
