Abstract

The contributors to this volume have approached nature-based solutions (NBS) from many different angles. Our collective experience with NBS includes applied research but primarily comprises practical experience supporting, developing, and implementing NBS policies and guidance for governments and businesses; advising local to international entities on NBS including on developing enabling regulatory frameworks; helping assess and develop new funding and financing instruments; developing science-based tools for planning and designing NBS interventions; and collaborating with communities and local nongovernmental organizations in planning and implementing on-the-ground projects. From this diversity of perspectives and experience, we have reflected on “what is next” for NBS, the potential pitfalls to avoid, and the opportunities that can lead to mainstreaming NBS for water security.
