Abstract

A storm of legislation, legal challenges, national media attention, and community activism looms over Arizona in 2011. Within this context, there is no such thing as “business as usual” in the academy. The curricular approval process is just one space where race, racism, and whiteness are painfully apparent. This chapter explores one White woman’s story of introducing a new course on critical whiteness studies within a public university in Arizona in the middle of this storm.
