Abstract
Automotive electronics is a very dynamic field that is taking full advantage of the progress made in semiconductor technology. This progress will be analyzed in this paper. It will be shown that lower cost per function, higher monolithic integration and novel functionality open up immense expectations for automotive electronics of the future. It will also be shown that several paradigm shifts and new solutions are changing the system partitioning that has traditionally been designed in the past.
