Abstract

The variety of models that are currently being used in ‘predictive microbiology’ or ‘microbial ecology’ aiming at reproducing the growth curve of microorganisms are being reviewed in the present paper. The major problems linked to the present state of the art of modeling single strain microorganism growth are emphasized and a direction forward is proposed.
