Exciton fusion in molecular clusters

Abstract

Large benzene clusters ionize with anomalously high efficiency when excited by ultraviolet radiation. The enhancement of the ionization and multiple-ionization cross sections over molecular values is quantitatively explained by ultrafast fusion of pairs of excitations within a cluster.
