Abstract
Hanging-wall blocks of some normal faults located in central and S Arizona show that both ductile and brittle localized structures formed in response to a compressive stress regime. The structures are believed to result from localized compressive stresses generated within the hanging-wall block during normal fault movement in a regional extensional stress. Such compressive stresses may be generated by block movement over an irregular normal fault surface or by interactions of sub-blocks in the hanging-wall block.-Author
