Abstract

This chapter addresses the many aspects that must be taken into consideration when building a corpus. It contains detailed information and clear guidance related to various aspects of corpus building, including issues related to the collection of both spoken and written texts, and file naming conventions are provided. Examples of file names and text processing are included. The importance of identifying a clear research goal prior to collecting a corpus is emphasised as one of the hallmarks of successful corpus construction. In all, the chapter provides a researcher with the concepts and tools to be considered for successful corpus construction.
