Abstract

A simple DNA extraction method based on CTAB precipitation was used to obtain DNA from members of the genus Saccharum and related species. DNA yields and purities were similar for all Saccharum species sampled. The method described here resulted in high quality total DNA suitable for polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based techniques as well as restriction endonuclease digestion, Southern hybridization, and DNA cycle-sequencing.
