Abstract

In this work we study the electronic properties of a single molecule of dithiothreitol. The non-equilibrium Green's functions formalism was used for theoretically calculating its electrical properties. The results of the simulation indicate a HOMO-LUMO separation of approximately 10 eV, which masks any peaking of the conductance and current. We propose a model based on the tunneling current as the major transport mechanism through this molecule and speculate its potential for optical applications.
