Abstract

This study compares the validity and reliability of normal force and pressure measurements obtained using the EMED and F-Scan insole systems. Pressure measurements were obtained from both insole systems using a series of bench tests as well as dynamic testing with four subjects walking on a treadmill. Although pressure and normal force values measured with the EMED insole demonstrated a high level of validity and reliability, the validity and reliability of the F-Scan insole was less than satisfactory for certain measurements. The results of this study raise serious questions regarding the ability of the F-Scan insole system to accurately measure normal force and, as a result, plantar pressures.
